The former nat’l booter tells The Independent

Asish bemoans downward trend of football

He suggests federation and clubs to work together
MD Anwar Ullah, Ctg

“Once we, Abahani Club played against Maldives national side and won by 6-0 but now their second division champions team defeats our Premier Division Champions and also one of the big teams of Bangladesh,” said Ashish Bhadra one of the most popular soccer players of mid seventies to late eighties.

Ashish Bhadra, a man of Port City and permanently lives in Chittagong, when talking to The Independent at the CJK office on Friday said about the reasons of downtrend of the standard of Bangladesh football.
Ashish Bhadra, first of all said, “We are actually in back gear in all of our sports, in general, no players have been produced for a long and this is the main reasons of huge crisis of quality football players.”
“In the domestic football the sources of producing football are the district and school competitions but all these organisations and the education institutions are very irregular to continue their activities. In a sense the football in district level are not organizing in that height, numbers of games have already reduced.”
“If we expect that all these things, football federation and higher authority will always responsible to do all these things, it is not right. Once in the district level, school football were organised by local organizers at their (DSA) own responsible, own passions.”
“Now day by day, the situation, lot of things have been changed, things are not like as it was in the past, as we played school football, federation or DSA did not organise, education boards had direct involvement.”
Athletics was also organised in the school and college level under the guidance of the education boards.  As in everything has changed and turned into professionalism, so there should be a strict monitoring by the respective higher authority.
“School footballs are taking place very rare, so there is no enough supply line of players where from you can pick up talented payers for the national side. There is another big weak ground not having quality footballers that is our coaches’ standard. You have to appoint quality coaches who are looking after the boys from Under-14, 16 and 17.”
“Ashish Bhadra repeatedly said about Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) should have strong monitoring cell to look after the district football, they should go to grassroots and should encourage the organizers of the district level.”
“Providing money is not all, federation should provide idea, planning how the league should organize, they should give a target of starting and finishing time. The district football league should be developed. It is harsh, leagues are completed within 15 to one months, so how the game will improve, I am very much doubtful.”
Ashish also gives importance federation and clubs to work together for the development of football while he said, “I think here clubs and federation should work unitedly. I can say, not to blame others, all have to work altogether and everything should bring under a format”
“There should have vision and a plan. If I say I will play World Cup in 2022 it is not quite possible, first I have to think about South Asian, then Asian level that would be realistic.”
