SC bar assoc polls from Mar  22
The two-day polls of Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association for 2017-18 tenure will be held on March 22 and 23.
“People interested to take part in the election will be able to collect and submit nomination papers from March 1 to 11, while they can withdraw their candidacy by March 14," Supreme Court bar superintendent Nimesh Chandra Sen told BSS here yesterday. A six-member sub-committee has been formed to hold the election, with senior lawyer AY Moshiuzzaman as its coordinator. The voting will start at 10 am and will continue till 5 pm on each day with one hour recess.

Three muggers arrested
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) yesterday in a release said police arrested yesterday three muggers from different places in the capital and recovered sharp weapons from their possessions.
The arrestees are Ratan Miah, 20, Md Hridoy, 18, and Rafikul Islam, 35. "A police patrol team detained Rafikul red-handed at around 8.30 pm Friday as he was fleeing the scene after mugging one Nurul Haque on the road behind Sir Salimullah Medical College. Police recovered Haque's money and mobile phone from him," the DMP release said. Meanwhile, Tejgaon police picked up Ratan and Hriday from Shahinbagh area at around 9.40 pm and recovered a machete and a knife from their possessions. Two separate cases were filed with local police stations in these regard.

Workshop held  in Rajshahi
A workshop titled ‘The Age of Tech’ held at Capstone Tutorial here organised by Footsteps.
Footsteps Organisation founder Shah Meem Rafayat Chowdhury said that Footsteps , in collaboration with Capstone Tutorial Dhaka, launched Programme Britto on February 20. Britto is an educational platform that conducts workshops on issues and subjects for students not usually taught in school, such as journalism and entrepreneurship, he said adding, the theme of the first workshop was ‘The Age of Tech’.  Students, mentors and faculty members of Capstone Tutorial Dhaka led by its vice chairman Dr Qazi Saiful Hoq joined the workshop.

11 journos get awarded 
Eleven journalists in Rajshahi division have been given CLS Media Award yesetrday for helping poor and marginalised litigants’ especially ethnic population to get cost-free legal aid services.
Light House under its ‘Improved Justice and Legal Aid Services (IJLAS) project’ organised the award-giving ceremony at Divisional Commissioner’s office in Rajshahi.  Community Legal Services (CLS) supported the programme funded by UKAID through Maxwell Stamp-PLC. The recipients were Prodip Bhattacharia Shanker, Binoy Kumar Das Bishu, Babul Islam, Abdul Alim, Jahurul Islam, Shakhawat Hossain, Abdul Baten, Jahurul Islam, Nurul Islam Babu, Kazi Namul Islam and Abu Hassan. Divisional Deputy Director (Local Government) Shawgatul Alam and Upazila Chairman Isahaque Ali attended and addressed the award-giving ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with Harun-Or-Rashid, Executive Chief of Light House, in the chair.

Shiva Choturdashi fair begins  
A three-day traditional Shiva Choturdashi Fair of the Hindu community began at Chandranath Shrine of Sitakunda upazila on Friday. 
Thousands of devotees from home and abroad particularly Nepal, India and Sri Lanka thronged the fair.  Convenor of the fair organising committee and Panel Mayor of Sitakunda Municipality said the function is a religious one.

8,000 yaba tablets seized 
Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 8,000 yaba tablets from Baroawalia hilly area in Chittagong district early yesterday.
Coast Guard sources said, being informed, a join team of coast guard personnel led by Lieutenant Commander Omar Faruk, east zone, raided the area around 5 am and recovered the 8,000 yaba tablets worth about Tk 40 lakh in an abandoned state.  Sensing the presence of the BCG team, the drug peddlers left the place leaving the yaba to escape arrest, he said. The recovered yaba handed over to the concern authority.
