‘Safe animal protein needed for healthy nation’

RAJSHAHI: Administrative officials and livestock experts at a post-rally discussion here yesterday underscored the need for boosting safe animal protein production as its proper consumption is very important for building a healthy and talented nation, reports BSS.
They mentioned the unemployment problem in the region especially in its rural areas could also be reduced to a greater extent through making the animal resource farming popular in the grassroots level. Department of Livestock Services (DLS) organised the discussion in its conference hall to mark the Animal Resources Service Week- 2017.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Noor-Ur-Rahman and its Additional Commissioner Sultan Abdul Hamid addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
Divisional Deputy Director of DLS Dr Rezaul Islam, District Livestock Officer Nizam Uddin and Additional District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Hossain also spoke. During his keynote presentation, Fazlur Rahman, Assistant Director (Animal Production) of DLS, gave an overview of the region’s animal production and its prospects.
Chief Guest Noor-Ur-Rahman said the region has an enormous prospect of expanding the livestock sector through best uses of its existing natural resources. There is no alternative to expansion of poultry and dairy farming to increase animal protein for freeing the nation from malnutrition. 
He called for due importance on adopting modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training to attain the cherished goal.
