In a unique display of unity, hundreds of school-going children on Friday joined a festival in the capital, vowing to build a non-communal Bangladesh imbued with the spirit of Liberation War, reports BSS.
They took the oath at a function titled “Muktir Utsab-2017” (Festival of Freedom) at Dhaka University central playground to implement the slogan of this year’s festival “our commitment: building a non-communal humane society”.
Wearing red-green caps, hundreds of students from different schools in the capital and outside it participated in the festival hosted by Liberation War Museum as part of its education programme. Freedom fighters and members of martyrs’ families also attended the function and shared stories on Liberation War with the children. The festival began with the singing of national anthem by the leading cultural institution Chhayanaut members while national flag was hoisted. Later, patriotic songs were also performed. Writer and educationist Professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Everest conqueror Nishat Majumder and poet Tariq Sujat also joined the function, among others.
Freedom Fighter Captain (retd) Akram Ahmed, Bir Uttam administered the oath to the children. Singer Ferdous Ara and cultural groups Joler Gan and Badhyabhumir Santandal artistes performed on the occasion.
