Smuggled Indian drugs seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized huge smuggled Indian medicines worth Tk 2.5 lakh from Putkhali border point at Benapole on Wednesday.
Tipped off, a team of BGB members conducted a drive in the area and seized the abandoned medicines from Balur Math around 9 am, said BGB Putkhali camp commander Subedar Srikrishna.
Body recovered from river
Chandpur: Police recovered the body of an unidentified young girl from the Meghna River at Horishova in the district town on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station M Waliullah said locals spotted the floating body of the girl in the river in the morning and informed police.
Later, the law enforcers recovered the decomposed body and sent it to Sadar hospital for autopsy, added he OC.
A case was filed.
7 kg gunpowder seized
Chapainawabganj: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized seven kilograms of gunpowder in Waherdpur border area of Shibganj upazila early yesterday, reports UNB..
Tipped off, a team of BGB, led by Wahedpur BGB border camp Nayeb Subedar Jamal Uddin, conducted a drive in the area around 1.00am and recovered the gunpowder in an abandoned condition, said Lt Col SM Abul Ahsan, Commander of BGB-9 Battalion.
However, none was arrested in this connection.
Man held with arms, ammo
Chapainawabganj: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged arms trader along with one pistol, two magazines and four bullets from Iqbalpur area in Shibganj upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Lal Chand, 25, son of Sentu Miah, a resident of Tarapur area of the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of the border force, led by Mankosha BGB border camp Habilder Hafizur Rahman, conducted a drive in the area around 7.30pm and arrested Lal Chand, said Lt Col SM Abul Ahsan, commander of Chapainawabganj BGB battalion-9.
Later, they recovered one pistol, two magazines and four bullets from his possession. A case was filed in this connection.
28 held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Wednesday night to this morning, arrested 28 accused and recovered drugs- phensidyl, yaba tablets, Ganja- and betel nuts from seven upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 10 persons, Kalaroa police four, Tala police two, Kaliganj police four, Shyamnagar police two, Assasuni police four Patkelghata police one and Debhata police arrested one accused.
Sadar Thana police recovered 68 pieces of Yaba tablets and 20 grams of Ganja from the upazila during the period.
Meanwhile, Kaliganj Thana police recovered 187 bottles of Phensidyl syrups and Kalaroa police recovered five-sack of betel nuts from the upazila.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
The arrested were sent to jail yesterday morning.
