The BNP sees the Canadian court observation that termed the party as a terrorist organisation as part of a “government conspiracy.”
“A drama has been staged by providing wrong information to the Canadian immigration department. The Canadian Federal Court observation terming the BNP as a terrorist organisation was part of a conspiratorial drama by the government,” BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said yesterday (Thursday). He was speaking at a press conference at the party's central office at Naya Paltan in the city.
The BNP leader said it was done to create confusion in the minds of the people. BNP vice-chairman Maj. (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed said: “It's meaningless to accuse the BNP alone. If someone believes that the BNP is a terrorist organisation, he/she has also to believe that the AL too is a terrorist organisation,” he added.
Asked whether the BNP would file any appeal against the observation, Rizvi said party’s senior leaders would take a decision in this regard.
Referring to a part of the court observation, the BNP leader wondered how an activist of the Sechhasebok Dal, a
volunteer organisation of the BNP, who had applied for political asylum, could describe the BNP as a terrorist organisation.
He said a BNP leader seeking political asylum cannot term the party as a terrorist organisation. Rather he is supposed to focus on the adverse political situation in Bangladesh and express his apprehension of becoming a victim of enforced disappearance, Rizvi observed. “It proves that it's a staged drama. They provided wrong information about a staged drama to the court,” he added.
Rizvi alleged that the news was released through an online news portal owned by a former Chhatra League leader, Shaogat Ali Sagor. “They are spreading propaganda and hatching a conspiracy staying in Canada,” he alleged. He further alleged that though the verdict was given on January 25, a section of the pro-government media carried it later. BNP leaders Abdus Salam and Khairul Kabir Khokan and others were present at the press conference.
