 Stocks finish week flat

Country’s twin bourses Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) finished week almost flat yesterday amid volatile trading.

The broader DSEX of DSE yesterday finished the day 0.51 points or 0.0090 per cent down at 5,625.33 from the previous day's 5,625.
Strong selling and buying spree helped significant rise in the DSE turnover that stood at Tk 13.33 billion, which was 1.76 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk 13.10 billion. The figure is highest since February 25 this year.
Engineering sector led the turnover chart, capturing 19 per cent of the day’s total turnover. Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills, Bangladesh Building Systems, Appollo Ispat and GPH Ispat made it to the top turnover list.  Fuel and power sector was the second highest contributor, capturing 16 per cent of the day’s total trade value.
However, non-bank financial institutions and engineering stocks provided support during the late hours of the session, helping the market closed flat, said the stockbroker.
EBL Securities, a stockbroker, said, “The capital market witnessed impulsive session and settled in flat red zone amid mixed sentiment”.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of the 328 issues traded, 164 closed lower, 126 closed higher and 38 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
LankaBangla Finance led the DSE turnover with about 9.80 million shares of Tk 560 million changing hands, followed by Beximco, Titas Gas, Baraka Power and Ratanpur Steel-Re-rolling Mills.
IPDC Finance was the day’s highest gainer, posting a 9.32 per cent rise while RN Spinning Mills was the worst loser, plunging by 9.42 per cent following its annual declarations.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished almost flat in red zone with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – losing 2.26 points to settle at 10,564.
Losers beat gainers as 135 issues closed lower, 87 closed higher and 33 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city bourse traded 23.08 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 839 million in turnover.
