Sailing on merger and data, mobile phone operator Robi has witnessed 5 per cent revenue growth in the fourth quarter (Q4) of last financial year ended on December 31, reports BSS.
Despite the challenges, the operator has bagged 19.5 per cent subscriber growth in Year-on-Year (YoY) reaching the customers' tally to 33.8 million that pushed it to the second position in the market, the company said while announcing the financial statement of Q4 yesterday.
On Quarter-on-Quarter (QoQ), revenue growth registered 5 per cent to BDT 14.6 billion amidst intense price competition. However, EBITDA margin is lower by 19.5 percentage point mainly for one-off merger related fees and charges.
During the FY16, total revenue grew by 0.5 per cent compared to the last year while data revenue had registered encouraging growth of 38.9 per cent.
Data revenue growth was propelled by significant investments in network coupled with innovative affordable data offerings to drive 3.5G and 2.5G data usage.
Besides, Robi's operating profit (EBITDA) margin is 27.2 per cent in FY-16 which is 9.2 percentage point lower than the previous year as a result of very marginal revenue growth, higher network operating expenses from continued network investments, one-off merger fees and charges.
In the statement Robi said it has continued investing aggressively to fast-track its 3.5G network expansion and improving 2.5G network
quality for better customer experience both in voice and data services.
Total CAPEX investment made by Robi since inception amounted to BDT 182.6 billion inclusive of BDT 7.4 billion CAPEX investment in the fourth quarter of 2016. The company has network coverage in all 64 districts in Bangladesh through 12,850+ sites, of which over 7,700 are 3.5G sites.
