University Day programme ends at BU 
BARISAL: The two-day programme of ‘University Day’ marking the 6th founding anniversary of Barisal University (BU) ended on the campus yesterday afternoon.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid addressed the second day’s programme as the chief guest. In his addressed education minister said it is the time to introduced updated world class education to win the world. He said higher education must be for creating knowledge. New generation will be the pioneer team to build the country.
A discussion was held on Muktamancha premises with Vice-Chancellor of BU Prof SM Emamul Haque in the chair. Education minister said only traditional education is not appropriate to achieve the target, here we need new and creative thinking.  Later, education minister inaugurated the new ambulance of BU. Lawmakers Ad Talukdar Md Eynus and Jebunesa Afroz and teachers of BU addressed the preogramme as special guests.

Prof Shahinoor reappointed IU Pro-VC

KUSHTIA: Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman of the English Department of Islamic University (IU) has been appointed Pro-Vice-chancellor of the university for the 2nd term.
IU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said President Abdul Hamid, also university’s Chancellor, appointed him to the post for the next four years as per the University Act 1980.  Born on July 1, 1966 in Kushtia, Shahinoor obtained Honours and Master’s degrees in English from Rajshahi University with distinction.

Int’l confce on mechanical engineering held 
A two-day International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Applied Science (ICMEAS)-2017 held at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka, says a press release.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu as chief guest and inaugurated the conference on Wednesday. The Minister greeted scientists, researchers, scholars and professionals from home and abroad for their contribution in the field of developments. Minister said the conference will create a new platform for all the researchers which will play significant role for achieving vision 2021 and 2041.  Total 180 research papers from 11 different countries were presented in the conference and amongst those best three research papers were nominated. Minister emphasized to apply theoretical knowledge on practical ground for the development of Bangladesh.
