Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said militant activities are now under full control of law enforcers, reports UNB.
The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order.
Amu, also the chief of the committee, said the government has decided to bring the countrywide network of criminals, including that of extortionists and robbers, under surveillance to improve the law and order situation.
He said the country’s law and order situation improved in the past few months as the law enforcers are playing an active role against militancy and terrorism.
“Law enforcers are also collecting information about those students of schools and colleges who have been absent for a long time,” Amu said.
He informed that the Narcotics Control Department arrested 8,561 people in connection with drug abuse and filed 6,806 cases over the last six months.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and top officials of all law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
