‘Bhuban Majhi’ invited to Canadian Film Fest

Independent filmmaker Fakhrul Arefeen Khan’s latest venture ‘Bhuban Majhi’, a film based on the Liberation War of Bangladesh, has been invited to the Canada-based International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) in Toronto, Canada.
IFFSA Toronto 2017 will be held from May 11 to 22, 2017 in Ontario, Canada as part of South Asian Heritage Month celebrations. Various launch events and buzz activities will take place during the month of April, 2017.
‘Bhuban Majhi’, starring Indian actor Parambrata Chatterjee and Bangladesh’s Aparna Ghosh in the leading roles, will be screened on May 21. This year, a number of 40 films from different countries have been scheduled to be screened during the festival.
The story of the film evolves around a spiritual man living in Kushtia, named Baul Nohor Majhi. A journalist goes to Kushtia for making a documentary on Baul and discovers a truth. Being a Baul, he was a freedom fighter who heroically fought for the country in the Liberation War of 1971, inspired by a young girl named Farida. In the film Parambrata will play the role of Baul Nohor Majhi while Aparna will play the role of Farida.
The film, based on the life of a true freedom fighter, depicts a number of historical incidents like the horror night scene of March 25, the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) rebellion in 1971 and much more.
The other important casts of the film includes Mamunur Rashid, Sushuma Sarker, Nowshaba, Maznun Mizan, singer Waqeel, among others.
To note, IFFSA Toronto is the largest South Asian Film Festival in North America. In its 6th year now, the festival has become an international icon and the voice of South Asian cinema in Canada. This 12+ day extravaganza showcases a diverse, language independent, selection of the best feature films, documentaries and short films from around the world, on themes of South Asian cultures and identities. In the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the world is one family”, a select number of foreign films are considered under Beyond South Asia segment.
In addition, the festival also features concerts, gala events, lounge parties, seminars, workshops and networking opportunities with government representatives, business leaders, local organizations that support film development, film stars, producers, directors, members of the media and more.
Over the years, IFFSA Toronto has grown to become a festival of festivals and transformed into an institution with year around operations. Other IFFSA Toronto initiatives include PIFF, BIFF, SIFFC and IFFSA YOUTHlens.
