The High Court yesterday adjourned till February 26 the hearing on a revision petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking its order to transfer the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case against her to another court from the trial court concerned to another court.
The HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the adjournment order after brief hearing on the petition.
Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali took part in the hearing on behalf of Khaleda Zia while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On February 8, the BNP chief filed the petition with the HC also seeking a stay on the trial proceedings against her in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case filed by the ACC.
In the petition, Khaleda said she submitted an application to the Special Judge’s Court-3 of Dhaka on February 2 expressing no confidence on the judge raising various grounds against the judge. In the revision petition, Khaleda also challenged the lower court’s rejection order.
In 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others for embezzlement of over Tk 2.1 crore. They allegedly formed the “fake” trust, which existed only on paper.
