India successfully defended their World Roll Ball men’s title when they trumped Iran by 8-4 goals in the exciting final match of the 4th Roll Ball World Cup 2017 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
They also clinched the trophy in women’s section beating the same country by 6-4 goals at the same ground.
Earlier, Bangladesh men team’s high hopes to play the final shattered when they conceded a 3-11 goals defeat to Iran in the exciting semifinal match of the 40-nation World competition.
The home side finished the first half with 3-1 goals but they extended the fuss further after the breather.
Although the hosts were lagged behind Iranian players in terms of height, strength and experience, the former halted Iran’s progress with
their outstanding defensive approach during the first half.
Both teams increased their pace of attack and counterattack in the second half. Iran extended their margin further in the chance of Bangladesh’s counterattack as they scored twice in the 28th minute.
In the 30th minute, Bangladesh got a penalty but could not capitalize it due to Iranian shot-stopper, who derived Bangladesh of some ensuring scoring chances in both occasions.
After conceding eighth goal from Iran, Bangladesh realized two consecutive penalties but they converted second after missing the
first (8-2).
Therefore, Iranian skaters scored three goals on the trot in the 42nd, 43rd, 44th minute respectively (11-2). Rhidoy Hossain, who scored so far 29 goals for Bangladesh throughout the
tournament, reduced the margin (3-11).
