ULAB Students win National Hackathon Awards

Five students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) received three awards in three different categories at the recently held National Hackathon for Women 2017.
Three teams from the department participated in the event where female students or professionals passionate about ICT (information and communications technology) took part in a collaborative programming session running for over 36 hours, a press release said.
Awards were given in 9 categories. Shakiba-E-Nur, a 5th semester student, achieved the first runner-up position in the health category. The name of her individual project was ‘Angel Care’. The other two ULAB teams secured second runner-up positions in two other categories. In business and e-commerce, Tamanna Islam and Raian Siddika, both final year students, won for their project titled ‘CNF agents search’. Syedun Nessa and Konika Ferdous, a recent graduate and 10th semester student respectively, were awarded in the environment and agriculture category for their project, ‘To measure air quality of certain areas’.
The students received bronze medals and prize money worth Tk 30,000 for first runner-up and Tk 20,000 each for second runner-up positions. ICT Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and founder of Women in Digital Achia Khaleda Nila presented the prizes.
The Hackathon, held February 10-11 at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, was organised by Women in Digital, ICT Division in association with Innovation Hub Bangladesh and Dynamic Hub.
