Two arrested with firearms
Police arrested two alleged criminals along with three firearms and 33 bullets from the capitals Motijheel area on Tuesday.
The arrestees are Nahidul Islam, 30, and Nazmul Hossain Noman, 29. Officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station Omar Faruque said a special police team challenged the duo at Jasimuddin Road of Motihjeel around 12 noon. Searching them, the law enforcers recovered one pistol loaded with several bullets.
Discussion on language martyrs
A discussion on the contribution of language martyrs to the world human rights was held in the capital recently, says a press release.
Non-government organisation Popular Human Rights Centre organised the discussion at its seminar room, with president of Popular Human Rights Centre Faruque Ahmed Bhuiyan in the chair. Vice-Principal of Dhaka City College Prof Mohd Mosharraf Hossain Chowdhury attended the programme as chief guest while Chairman of SK Engineering MA Mannan as special guest. Chief guest Prof Chowdhury said language is an inevitable entity in human life. In this case the subject of mother language comes without fail. The mother language is as natural and it is an important element of human rights. General Secretary of PHRC Md Alamgir Kabir, Vice President Md Tamiz Uddin and Dr Md Shafiul Islam Bhuiyan also spoke at the discussion.
Tributes paid to language heroes
Icddr,b on Tuesday paid tributes to the Language Movement martyrs who laid down their lives for establishing Bangla as state language in 1952.
icddr,bs executive director Prof John Clemens and icddr,bs staff welfare associations president Dr Azharul Islam Khan jointly hoisted the national flag to be flown at half-mast.Newly joined icddr,bs deputy executive director Syed Monjurul Islam, executive committee members of staff welfare association and general staff were present among others.
