Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday seized 19 gold bars from two passengers at Shah Amanat International Airport.
Of them 15 gold bars were seized from Md Shahdat Hossain, 34, son Abdur Sabur of Bottali Village of Anwara of Chittagong, came from UAE by a flight at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport in the morning.
The rest of four gold bars were seized from Abul Bashar, 31, a resident of Fatickchhari upazila of Chittagong, came from Muscat of Oman.
“During searching luggage of Bashar we found four gold bars in his baggage. On other incident acting on trip-off we halted Md Shahadat Hossain while crossing the green channel. We interrogated him as we have information and at one stage he confessed that he has more 15 gold bars in his stomach. Later the gold bars were recovered from his stomach, said Tarek Mahmud, assistant commissioner of CIID (Airport).
The 19 pieces gold bars weighing about 2kg and worth about Tk2 crore, added Tarek.
