Bangladesh men’s roll ball team progressed to the semifinal beating their Nepalese counterparts by 6-3 goals in the exciting quarterfinal match of the 4th Roll Ball World Cup at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.The home side earlier confirmed their quarterfinal blanking Chinese Taipei by 12-0 goals in the pre-quarterfinal at the same venue.
Rhidoy Hossain scored three goals, Mohammad Sohag netted a brace and Arafat Alam netted one goal for the winners.
Mohammad Sohag broke the stalemate of the match when Nepali shot-stopper failed to hold Sohag’s long distance shot in the 12th minute (1-0). Rhidoy Hossain then doubled the advantage just three minutes after Rhidoy’s opener.Sohag widened the margin further when he scored the third goal from the left-frank for the team in the 18th minute. Arafat Alam scored the fourth goal to finish the first half with the margin of 4-0 goals.
After the breather, Nepal desperately tried to bounce back with attack and counterattack alongside created fears in the local fortress by hitting three goals on the trot (4-3). Therefore, Rhidoy Hossain ensured the semifinal spot by scoring two consecutive goals.
In the second semifinal, Bangladesh will face-off Iran, who sealed their spot defeating Pakistan by 6-2 goals, at 12:45pm.
India, who flooded Gambia with goal glut of 40-0 goals, made sure their semifinal with Kenya, who edged past Latvia by hard-fought 6-5 goals at 11:30am at the same venue today.
