A Dhaka court yesterday placed on 5-day remand two people including Rezayanul Azad Rana, the death row convict and mastermind of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider murder, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazharul Islam passed the order after Rana and his associate named Ashraf were produced before the court by members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking a 10-day yesterday afternoon.
Earlier on Monday, CTTC unit members arrested the duo from the capital’s Uttara area around 2:00pm after they were deported to the country by Malaysian authorities.
On 15 February, 2013, Ahmed Rajib Haidar, an activist of Ganajagarn Mancha, was stabbed to death near his house at Mirpur Palash Nagar in the capital. On December 31 in 2015, a court rewarded death penalty to two people and jail terms for different periods to six people in blogger Rajib Haider murder case.
