3  killed in road crash
CHITTAGONG: Three women were crushed under an unknown vehicle on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sonapahar area of Mirsarai upazila early Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Peyara Akhter, 37, wife of Ohidul Haque, Sajeda Begum, 55, wife of Dudu Miah, and Peyara Begum, 35, wife of Jaj Miah of Brahmanbaria. SI Farid Uddin, in-charge of Jorarganj Police Station, said that the vehicle hit them on the highway around 1 am while they were returning from ‘Rahmania Darbar Sharif’ after attending a mahfil, leaving the trio dead on the spot.

Foreign Minister greets his Canadian counterpart
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has greeted his Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland on the eve of the 45th anniversary of Bangladesh’s diplomatic relations with Canada.
In a letter of greetings, the Foreign Minister profoundly recalled the friendly relations between the two countries that have developed in both depth and dimension over the last four and a half decades. Mahmood Ali also conveyed the deepest felicitations from the people of Bangladesh to the friendly people of Canada as they are celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada Confederation ‘Canada 150’ this year.

Valuables looted; 1 injured
Robbers looted valuables from a house, leaving the house owner’s brother injured in Haydarabad area of Gazipur city early Monday.
Victim’s family said a gang of robbers numbering 15/20 entered the house of Kamal Shah breaking the collapsible gate at about 2.30 am.They took the inmates of the house hostage at gun point and looted five tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk 6.27 lakh and other valuables.
At one stage, the robbers beat up and stabbed Kamal’s brother Jamal Hossain as he tried to resist them.
Hearing the hue and cry, villagers rushed in and after a hot chase caught four of the gang members, said sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam, in-charge of Pubail police camp.

6 warehouses gutted in fire
At least six godowns of jhut (garment factory wastes) in Deuliabari area of Gazipur city were gutted in a fire on Sunday night. Gazipur Fire Service’s Deputy Assistant Director Md Akhtaruzzaman said the fire broke out in a warehouse around 9pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining five godowns.

Two held with fake notes
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a young man and a woman along with fake currencies amounting to TK 2 lakh from Mirzapur area of Gazipur on Sunday. The arrestees were identified as Humayun Kabir, 36, hailing from Dorichar Khajuria village in Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal district, and his associates Salma Begum, 30, hailing from Bhola.      agencies
