Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), the premier cultural organisation of the country, celebrated its 43rd founding anniversary through an elaborated programme on its premises in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area. The programme began with raising the national flag and BSA flag. Then, an exhibition centring the programmes of 43 years celebration--organised by the academy’s Fine Arts Department, Theatre Department, Music, Dance and Recitation Department, Training Division, Research and Publication Department and Administrative Division--was held at the Gallery 3 in the National Art Plaza of BSA.
Also, BSA acrobatic troupe presented an acrobatic show at the academy’s Nandan Mancha.
In the second phase, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor MP attended a discussion event as chief guest. Presided over by Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky, noted cultural personalities Syed Hasan Imam and Dr Sanjida Khatun attended the programme as discussants.
After the discussion, a documentary on the first Director General of BSA Mostafa Nurul Islam was screened at the event.
In the cultural part, a group consists of 15 members presented a group dance led by Anik Bose with the song ‘Theme Rong Ebong E Mati Noy Jongibader’. They also presented dances with the songs ‘Takdum Takdum’, Sohag Chand Bodoni’ and ‘Sonar Bandhaiya Nao’ led by Deepa Khandakar. In the solo part, singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Subir Nandi and Samina Chowdhury rendered songs, while singer Jomsher Ali Dewan, Saidur Rahman and his troupe presented Baul songs, and Somir Kawal and his troupe presented Qawwali songs.
To note, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established BSA through an act of Parliament as a constitutional organisation under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on February 19 in 1974. Now the Academy is functioning under the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Ordinance 1989.
Over the years BSA has become the main hub for theatre practice - especially after the establishment of the National Theatre Hall in recent years . l
