Fate of FF improving: Minister

Pabna: Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif yesterday said the fate of the freedom fighters is improving because of various initiatives taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS. “Freedom fighters are the symbol of hopes and aspirations of the Bangalee nation,” he said presiding over a meeting to scrutinize applications for inclusion in the list of freedom fighters at Ishwardi Upazila Council auditorium, said an official release. The minister said freedom fighters are the greatest son of the soil.
The government has started the process of scrutinizing to honour the real freedom fighters, he added. Shamsur Rahman said those who joined the Liberation War, responding to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from March 26 to December 16 in 1971 are freedom fighters.The number of freedom fighters has been increased while the amount of allowance for them raised during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said adding that the number of recipients of allowance has doubled to 2 lakh and the rate of allowance increased to Taka 10,000 from Taka 900 only.
Currently, 753 freedom fighters get allowances in Ishurdi upazila and scrutiny of applications of 689 freedom fighters is under process.
