RAJSHAI: An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Bhutpara area of Rajshahi city early Sunday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Kawsar Hossain, a resident of Peyara village in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Tipped off that a gang of robbers was preparing for committing robberies in the area, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there around 2:45am, said Lt Col Mahbub, commanding officer of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -5.
Sensing RAB’s presence, the robbers opened fire on the elite force, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
Kawsar was caught in the line of fire and injured, but his associates fled the scene.
Kawsar was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members also recovered one pistol, one magazine, two sharp weapons and four bullets from the spot. Kawsar was wanted in four cases, including two of murders, the Mahbub added.
