Mamnul Islam, Nasiruddin Chowdhury and Shahidul Alam Sohel are enough lucky this time to play the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup tournament while all these three local boys had the opportunity only to watch the matches of the first edition of the tournament as spectators from the gallery.
Mamun, this time captain of the Ctg Abahani, central defender Nasiruddin Chowdhury and Sohel could not play last year as then their parent club Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club did not participate in the tournament.
Sheikh Jamal, who were invited in the tournament as then Bangladesh Premier League champions but denied to take part showing a lame excuse of poor prize money for the championship.
After the 2014-15 season Nasiruddin and Mamunul signed for local team Ctg Abahani and Sohel for Abahani Limited (Dhaka) for 2015-16 season and they avail the opportunity to play in the tournament and they desperate not to miss the tournament at their home ground this time.
Mamunul in his reaction of getting the opportunity to play said, “It was very bitter experience having no opportunity to play last time. It is really a great feeling this time that I will play an international tournament at my home den, but there is also a challenge.”
“As defending champions, it is a big challenge to maintain the glory, hopefully we will be able to retain the title and obviously will not leave any stone unturned to win the title for successive time,” said Mamunul, who has been suffering from illness for last three days. Nasiruddin Chowdhury said, “It is a great feeling that this time I will not be a spectator, I will play the tournament which is organizing by my club. It was something painful to be spectators as player at home ground last time.”
