Fast bowler Rubel Hossain called up for the Australia-New Zealand tour after a long hiatus because of in-form Shafiul Islam’s injury. But he could not showcase his performance up to the mark in Test though he bowled outstandingly in T20 series. For this, he missed to play the second and last Test in New Zealand. Even he did not play in the historic one-off Test squad against India.
And so, Rubel Hossain takes it a challenge and said that he wants to step into the national team again by showing his improved bowling performance.
“It is natural to feel worse. I have been playing for the national team since so many years. But I was not in the team for some days,” said Rubel Hossain, who played so far 24 Tests, 69 ODIs and 14 T20s for the national team.
“It is painful to see games outside of the national team. There is nothing to do for it in cricket. It happens in case of every player,” Hossain told reporters while he came at National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground to practice with Prime Bank South Zone ahead of their fourth round game of the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
“Actually I took it as a challenge. I have to bowl well and place me in national team again by bowling well. There is no more alternative to it,” he added.  The right-handed pacer said that he focuses only on his performance how he can bowl well in Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
“We don’t think about national team right now as it fully depends on selectors, coach and team management. Now I am playing in BCL. My only target is to do bowl well and take wickets as much as possible,” the 27-year-old pacer said.  “I am trying what is good for the team. Selectors often go to stadium and witness the match and performances of the players. If l get chance to play I will try to capitalise it completely,” he also said.
“I try to play my best cricket at whatever level I play. I am toiling hard to execute it in field. Alhamdulillah, I am in good rhythm. I want to keep its continuation, Inshallah. For this I have to work hard that I know,” he added.
Rubel already played two round games of BCL, from where he grabbed 10 wickets with the best figure of 5-22. The in-form pacer said that they will get down for winning the next round game against leaders BCB North Zone.
“Our opponent is now on pole position. They of course are very good side. Now three-four national team’s players entered in our team. We will go into the next match for winning. We’ll play according to our coach’s plan. We have to win the match by playing our better cricket. If we could justify our name then we can hope for a better result,” Bagerhat-born seamer said.
He said that they should improve their batting performance to do fare well in the franchisee-based longer version league.
Praising the wickets in BCL, Rubel said, “We have seen one type of bounce in New Zealand wickets, where bowlers could carry the ball at their will but wickets in Bangladesh are spin-friendly. But there were enough grass what we saw in BCL wickets. I think it is very helpful for pace bowlers. Those who will bowl by a bit of effort they will read the wicket so quickly. I think they could do well in such wickets.”
