‘Tortured for dowry’, woman commits ‘suicide’

Benapole: A housewife committed ‘suicide’ at Ghiba village in Sharsha upazila on Thursday following prolonged mental torture allegedly by her in-laws for dowry, reports UNB.Neighbours said Riazul Islam married Reshma Khatun, 25, a few years back and he along with his family members had been torturing her mentally since then for dowry. On Thursday, Riazul and Reshma picked up a quarrel over the issue. Having failed to endure the mental torture, Reshma took pesticide.Reshma was taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital where she died at night.Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said no one filed any case in this regard.
