RANGPUR: The Harijan community people at a human chain here have demanded for ensuring their equal rights, dignity and opportunities in every sector of the society like all other citizens, reports BSS.
They forwarded five-point demands in the programme arranged by ‘Sohay’, a rights-based organisation of the Harijan community, at Press Club premises on Wednesday with its President Raza Basfor in the chair.
General Secretary of ‘Sohay’ Sazu Basfor, Harijan community leaders Suzan Basfor, Rocky Basfor and student of Begum Rokeya University Sanjoy Basfor addressed the programme forwarding their demands.
In their speeches, the Harijan community demanded their rights to sit in eateries for having foods, stopping misbehave with them in hats, bazaars and shops and ensure their rights to inclusive education and admission to the mainstream educational institutions.
Besides, they demanded for ensuring equal job opportunities in all government and non- governmental organisations, proper implementation of their service quota fixed by the government and stopping the attitude of showing disrespect and disparity toward them for their profession, caste or creed.
