Kushtia: A police constable allegedly committed suicide by taking sleeping pills at his home in Housing area in Mirpur upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. Kamal Hossain Chowdhury, 45, a police constable of Meherpur District Police, had been suffering from back pain, said Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station. On Wednesday midnight, Kamal took sleeping pills in a bid to commit suicide. Later, he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 7 am. Recently Kamal sought leave from the higher authorities concerned to go to India for treatment as he did not get leave he committed suicide by taking pills out of frustration, said Shima Chowdhury, sister of the victim.
