Recently, members of the Yunnan Wild Bird Society spotted some glossy ibises in the wetlands nearby South Huanhu Road, Jinning County, Kunming. Glossy ibises are classified as a second-class protected animal in China.
Glossy ibises are extremely rare in China and Asia. Their populations are mainly distributed in southern Europe, Africa and Central America. Glossy ibises live near warm rivers, lakes and marshes, feeding on aquatic insects, larvae, shrimp and other small invertebrates. According to historical records, glossy ibises first appeared in Yunnan in 2012, when one glossy ibis arrived in Yuxi City.
