Bangladesh and Germany is likely to sign a joint declaration aiming at regular diplomatic consultations to combat terrorism and violent extremism, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said yesterday.
The instrument will be signed after the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and German counterpart Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday in Munich in the presence of both the leaders, he said, while speaking at a press conference organised to brief journalists about Hasina’s visit to Germany to participate in the Munich Security Conference.
During the bilateral meeting, both the heads of the government will discuss a wide range of issues including development cooperation, trade and investment and mutual assistance to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG), said minister Ali.
He also said that through the meeting the understanding will be much better in respect of sudden rise extremist right wing politics, post-Brexit issues, climate change, migration, global terrorism and violent extremism.
The Rohingya crisis will also be raised during the meeting, he added.
On the Prime Minister’s participation in the conference, Ali said that Hasina will take part in different discussions with regards to climate change and human security. Besides, the security issues evolving from the effect of climate change will also be discussed.
Prime Minister and her delegation will leave Dhaka tonight by an Etihad Airways flight and scheduled to return home on Sunday.
When asked how long the Prime Minister will continue ‘boycotting’ Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the foreign minister said that it’s not a boycott rather shortage of aircraft is reason behind the use of foreign airlines.
“She will start using Biman when more aircraft will be added to the Biman fleet,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister also used foreign carrier during her trip to Switzerland last month.
The Prime Minister, who generally used Biman for her overseas trips, chose foreign airlines came against the backdrop of two incidents regarding the Biman flights she was in.
In June, 2016, the landing of the Biman flight carrying her from Saudi Arabia was delayed by 50 minutes due to the presence some objects on the runway. And, in November, the Biman flight carrying her had to make an emergency landing in Turkmenistan on her way to Hungarian capital Budapest.
