Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said government is working to ensure an environment-friendly plastic industry in the country and the work on developing a plastic industrial estate is likely to be completed by June 2018. 

Amu said government has taken an initiative to set up an industrial park, spreading over 50 acres, at Sirajdikhan in Munshiganj district with a cost of Tk 133 crore, 
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest during the inaugural session of the four-day-long 12th International Plastic Fair-2017 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) and Chan Chao International Co Ltd are jointly organising the four-day 12th Bangladesh International Plastics, Packaging and Printing Industry fair.
Terming the plastic industry as top priority sector of the National Industrial Policy-2016, Amu said the government is providing all sorts of supports to make the sector environment-friendly.
According to Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), more than 300 exhibitors and an estimate of over 11,000 trade visitors have participated in this fair. 
A total of 12 countries including Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, Vietnam and the UAE are taking part in the fair, BPGMEA officials said. 
Al-Rashed, area sales manager of Bengal Polymer Wares Ltd, told The Independent that Bengal introduced hygiene plastic pallets in the fair which is used to contain industry raw materials and move goods from one place to another.
Al-Rashid also described that previously, plastic pallets were used to be imported from abroad and now Bengal is manufacturing the entire products locally.   
Bengal Polymer is manufactured hygiene plastic pallets which can be used to hold raw materials of different industry products such as medicines and beverages, he also said.
The price range of hygiene plastic pallets starts from Tk 3000 to Tk 9000 and it is optimal compare to the industry average, he added.
According to the Bengal officials, Bengal is showcasing approximately 400 products in the fair. 
RFL Plastics Ltd, which participates in the fair every year, is displaying around 400 products in the fair, Horidas Biswas, assistant manager of RFL, said while talking to the reporters at the fair vanue.
He also said, “Last year we sold products worth Tk 5 to 6 lakh and we are expecting more turnover this year”.
The other officials of RFL informed that cane paper basket which costs Tk 165 is the new product in this fair.
Remex Corporation Ltd, a plastic raw material manufacturer, is showcasing Master Batch, a concentrated mixture of pigments which are used for plastic manufacturing processes and allow the processor to colour raw polymer. When asked about the usage of this product, Assistant Manager of Remex Corporation Ltd Mohi Uddin said that Master Batch is used to bring shapes and shades in the plastic materials.     
Among others, State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, Awami League President's adviser on private sector development Salman F Rahman, Executive Director (Overseas) of Chan Chan Int'l Co Ltd Judy Wang and BPGMEA president M Jahsim Uddin attended the inaugural session.
