Malaysian varsity team meets DU VC
A two-member delegation of Malaysian universities on Tuesday called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at his latter’s office on the campus.
Director of the Centre for Research and Innovation Management of the National Defence University of Malaysia Professor Dr Azizi Bin Miskon led the delegation.
Other team member was the Head of the Engineering department of the University Technology Malaysia Professor Dr Norliza Mohd Noor.
Professor of DU Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of Dr Md Atiqur Rahman Ahad was present at the meeting, among others, said a DU press release. 
During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes in the University of Dhaka, the National Defence University of Malaysia and the University Technology Malaysia. 
Exchanges of teachers, students and researchers among the universities were also discussed in the meeting. However, they also agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard soon. Malaysian Professors are now on a visit to Bangladesh to attend the IEEE international conference on Imaging, Vision and Pattern Recognition, it said. 

2-day architecture fest begins at MIST
A two-day ‘Architecture Festival 2017’ kicked off yesterday on Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) campus in Mirpur cantonment in the capital.
Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju inaugurated the festival and addressed another seminar as the chief guest, said an ISPR release.
Commandant of MIST Major General Md Abul Khair and other senior military and civil officials, teachers and students of MIST were present in the seminar, among others.
The minister Anwar Hossain lauded young architects for their contributions towards nation building. Highlighting the vision 2021 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the minister said, “A large number of development activities are underway by our government”. He also observed that such type of seminars can play a vital role in making Bangladesh a heaven.
The Minister also emphasized on spreading out the knowledge and ideas acquired by such type of seminars so that the general people could perceive the ideas. Around 150 participants from 20 different educational institutions took part at the seminar and highlighted their view in preventing adverse effect of rapid urbanization.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Int’l Award launched 
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award will be available to the students of BAF Shaheen English Medium School (SEMS) and BAF Shaheen College Dhaka. 
The award launching ceremony was held at Shaheen Hall in the capital on Tuesday, says a press release. Through signing a Unit Operator’s Licence (UOL), BAF Shaheen English Medium School (SEMS) and BAF Shaheen College Dhaka have come in collaboration with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation Bangladesh (The DEA Foundation BD). Prof Dr KM Shariful Huda, national director of The DEA Foundation BD; Group Captain Makhlukar Rahman Khan, Principal of BAF Shaheen English Medium School (SEMS) and Group Captain AHM Ameerul Ahsan, Principal of BAF Shaheen College Dhaka signed the UOL on behalf their respective organisations.
President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Kazi Md Salahuddin was the chief guest where over 400 students attended. Tanveer Muzhar Islam Tanna, a former cricketer of Bangladesh National Team and popular media personality- Shampa Reza were present as guest of honour.  The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is an internationally recognized award which opens an opportunity to the youth of aged group 14 to 24 to discover their hidden abilities and to gain a special sense of satisfaction and achievement.
