2 SCC councillors suspended
Two councillors of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) have been suspended following criminal charges against them.
Local Government Division has issued a circular suspending Farhad Chowdhury Shamim and Dinar Khan Hasu, councillors of ward No 6 and 19 respectively.
SCC chief executive officer Enamul Habib said he received the circular on Tuesday afternoon. Shamim and Hasu are accused in some cases filed with several police stations of the district. Alower court here recently has accepted the chargesheets against the duo in some criminal cases.
IPU conference in Dhaka to be held in April
The 136th conference of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global organisation of parliamentarians, will be held in the capital in April this year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the conference, the first of IPU in Bangladesh, an official handout said.It said some 1,300 representatives including parliamentary speakers, deputy speakers and members of IPU countries would take part in the conference.
Currently there are 171 members and 11 associate members of the IPU.
Youth stabbed dead
A young man was stabbed to death and two others were injured by a thief during an incident of stealing at Narashinghapur Bangla Bazar in Ashulia area early Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Babul, 30.
Mohsinul Kazi, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said the thief entered the house of Mahbubur Rahman Mahi, a cousin of the deceased, at the village and tried to steal valuables around 2.30am.
As Babul tried to resist the thief, he stabbed him repeatedly, leaving him dead on the spot. The thief also stabbed Babuls wife Asma and daughter Meherun when they tried to save Babul.
