Members of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) of Bangladesh arrested a man recently from the capital for his alleged involvement with rape a woman.
Talking to The Independent yesterday PBI Dhaka Metropolitan’s Additional Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed said the man was identified as Sumon Kundu, a father of two children.
According to the sources of PBI, the victim, who has also a ten years old daughter, came to visit of house of her elder brother on January 22 in the capital.
Earlier on February 16 last year, the lady had divorce with her husband. Using previous intimacy Sumon proposed her to marry several times. But she repeatedly refused to the proposal. After communicating through mobile phone, on February 1, he met the lady and visited different places in the capital along with her. Later he rented a room at a residential hotel in the capital’s Panthapath area around 11:30pm on the same day.
While staying at room no 902(A) of a hotel, he allegedly raped the woman. He also changed the hotel and rented room no 520 in the same area. Introducing them as couple, he was staying in the hotel and continuously raped the victim.
In the meantime, brother of the victim lodged a general diary on February 7 with Badda Police Station in this regard. Following the complaint, the PBI started working on it. After tracking his telephone, a team of the PBI led by Additional SP Bashir arrested Sumon from the hotel and rescued the victim.
On February 14, the victim filed a rape case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against Sumon with Sher e Bangla Police Station.
According to the case statement, Sumon continuously raped the lady promising to marry her. During the primary interrogation, arrested Sumon admitted that he had raped several girls in the name of marrying them, some times luring them with money. He mainly targeted the married ladies as the victims do not take legal steps against him.
