ALLEGATIONS OF QUESTION PAPER LEAKS

If proven, SSC maths exam may be cancelled

STAFF REPORTER

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said yesterday that the mathematics examination of the ongoing SSC exam would be cancelled if investigations proved that the allegation of question paper leak was true.
The minister made the announcement to journalists at his office in the Secretariat after news reports appeared claiming that the mathematics question paper had been leaked on Sunday.
The minister said a probe committee would be formed to investigate the matter. If it was proved true, the maths exam would be cancelled and action taken against the guilty. He also said no one would be spared.
“We have closed all probable sources of question paper leak. BG Press was a big source of leak. We have taken steps against it. There has been no report of paper leak for the last two or three years. Now, we are again hearing some allegations. These may be rumours. We will not sit idle,” he added.
“Apparently, some dishonest teachers were involved in the leak. Even in the past, we have nabbed such so-called teachers,” he said. Intelligence agencies were working on this, he added.
He urged everyone to help the government nab such dishonest teachers.
On Sunday, rumours flew thick and fast that the maths question paper of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Examination, Dhaka, had been leaked. However, Dhaka Board sources said they collected some of these questions, but those were not the actual questions.
“We collected some of these questions from Facebook. But they did not match those in the question paper,” said Tapan Kumar Sarkar, controller of the Dhaka Board, yesterday.
