One held on graft charges     
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday arrested an Agrani Bank official in Faridpur in a graft case.
ACC assistant director Sajjad Hossain of Faridpur Zila Office arrested Shamrat Miah, cash officer of Kalkini branch of the bank in Madaripur, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
On September 17, 2016, the ACC filed a case against him and two others with Kalkini Police Station for allegedly plundering about Tk 20 lakh, the salaries of teachers covered under the government’s MPO (monthly pay order) programme, from the Kalkni branch of the bank.
Six ‘muggers’ arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested six members of an organised gang of muggers and seized huge sharp weapons and snatched valuable goods in Rangpur in the small hours of Sunday, RAB sources said.
Battalion Commander of RAB-13 Commander ATM Atikullah disclosed the information at a press conference arranged at the battalion headquarters in the city this afternoon.Acting on a tip off, a special team of the elite force conducted a raid at the bridge point in Shapla Mour area of the city and arrested the muggers red-handed with sharp weapons and snatched goods at about 3:30 am today.
US team meets dy speaker
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad M Fajle Rabbi Miah on Sunday said the government has been playing an important role for attaining millennium development goal (MDG) in the health sector.
He said this when two visiting US heart specialists —Dr Bark Elizabeth and Dr Gremits -called on him at his Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office in the capital. Referring to different development activities undertaken by the government in different sectors including the medical science, the deputy speaker said community clinics have been opened across the country to reach health services to the doorsteps of common people.
World Radio Day celebrated
The World Radio Day-2017 was celebrated in Rajshahi yesterday in a befitting manner with a vow to reach the emergency massages of the Bangladesh Betar to the doorsteps of the hard-to-reach and high risk communities.
Marking the day, officials and artists of Rajshahi Betar brought out a rally. Representatives and staff of Community Radio Padma and Mohananda also joined the rally. After parading different streets, the rally ended at Betar Bhaban where a discussion and a cultural function were held.
Akhter Jahan, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Hassan Akhter, Regional Director of Betar, in the chair. Principal of Curt Degree College Professor Shafiqur Rahman Badsha, Freedom Fighter Muhammad Ali Kamal and political leader Abdullah Al Masud also spoke.
