Police recovered the body of a private university student from the Padma River in Dohar upazila on Sunday evening, two days after he went missing, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shawon Sarker, 23, son of Nitai Sarker, hailing from Ratnadia village in Manikganj Sadar upazila and a third-year student of Computer Science of Asia Pacific University in the capital. Locals spotted Shawon’s body in Moinat Ghat area and informed police, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dohar Police Station.
Later, police recovered the body and handed over it to his family members around 8pm.
Earlier, Shawon and his classmate Md Mizanur Rahman Mintu, 24, son of Nazrul Islam, hailing from Ahmmedpur village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district, went missing in the Padma River at Charjhaukanda in Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur district on Friday afternoon. Around 34 students of the university went to visit Moinat Ghat of Dohar in Dhaka.
Later, they went to a shoal in the middle of the Padma of Charbhadrasan upazila by a trawler where they were playing a football match.
Four students went down the river to fetch the football when it fell into it.
However, two of them went missing although the rest managed to swim ashore.
