Ship carrying relief for Rohingyas arrives in Ctg

A Malaysian humanitarian aid ship, carrying relief materials for Rohingyas who fled their home country after brutal crackdown by security forces in Myanmar's Rakhine state, reached Bangladesh yesterday. It is scheduled to berth at the Chittagong container terminal (CCT) at 11am today.
The ship, named "Nautical Aliya", left Yangon on Friday and anchored in the Kutubdia channel in the Bay of Bengal yesterday. Through an SMS, Zafar Alam, member (admin) of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), said the cargo ship was carrying 16 TUES (Twenty Feet Equivalent Container) along with 1,400 metric tonnes of cargo. A ceremony will be held at the CCT at 11am today to welcome the ship. Foreign secretary, Rear Admiral Khurshed Alam, Malaysian ambassador Noor Ashikin Mohd Taib, Cox’s Bazar district deputy commissioner (DC) Ali Hossain and Chittagong district DC Shamsul Arefin will be present on the occasion, said CPA sources.
The cargo is scheduled to be unloaded today and 150 covered vans have been hired for carrying the goods to Cox’s Bazar by road. The relief materials would be distributed among the Rohingyas with the help of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Red Crescent, the sources said.
