The defending champions Chittagong Abahani Limited have been drawn in the Group B of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup
football tournament to kick off from February 18.
The other teams of Group are –Manag Marshyangdi of Nepal, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shaheen Asmayee FC.
Group A, considered as the ‘group of death’ is comprised with Dhaka Abahani Ltd, FC Alga of Kyrgyzstan, Pocheon Citizens FC of South Korea and TC Sports Club of Maldives.
Meanwhile, a colorful trophy unveiling and the draw ceremony of the tournament was held yesterday at the Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon with eight teams including three from home and five from abroad are taking part in the competition.
The Port City giants celebrated the title of the first edition of the Sheikh Kamal tournament when Kolkata East Bengal won the runners-up trophy while this time the team from India is not taking part time.
Besides the hosts Chittagong Abahani Limited, country’s most popular football teams Mohammedan Sporting Club and the Abahani Limited (Dhaka) two are the other home teams.
Pocheon Citizen Football Club from South Korea, FC Alga from Kyrgyzstan, Shaeen Asmayee FC from Afghanistan, Manag Marshyangdi Club from Nepal and TC Sports from Maldives, five are the foreign teams.
AHM Mostafa Kamal, Minister for Planning was the chief guest in the draw ceremony while the former president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in his address said, he believes that football and other sports will also go ahead alongside cricket.
Mustafa Kamal appreciated Chittagong Abahani high ups to organize the tournament after the name of Sheikh Kamal, the founder of Abahani Limited.
