Man held with 14 gold bars

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with 14 pieces of gold bars weighing 1,800 kg from Churipotti at Benapole on Sunday night.
The arrestee was identified as Bazlur Rahman, 55, son of Nesar Uddin, a resident of Baro Anchra village of Benapole.
Tipped off that a big consignment of gold bars was being smuggled out to India, a team of the border force conducted a drive there around 7.30pm, said Nayek Subedar Abdur Samad, commander of Khulna BGB Battalion-21 Daulotpur camp. Later, the BGB members recovered 14 gold bars, worth Tk 50 lakh, after searching his body.
‘Criminal’ held with pistol

Police arrested a suspected criminal along with one pistol and one bullet from Rajbari village here early yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Sekandar Ali, son of Kalu Sheikh of the village.
Tipped off, a team of police went to the village and arrested Sekander around 12:30am, said Apurbo Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station. Sekander was wanted in several cases, including of two murders, the OC added.
Locals protest teacher’s
‘cruel’ behaviour

Agitated parents and locals locked a school protesting cruel behaviour of a teacher of a government primary school in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday. After investigation, local education authorities suspended the accused teacher.
According to sources, Abdul Kadir, an assistant teacher of Panikhawar Ghat Government Primary School cruelly beat up the students of class V as they failed to memorise their lessons on Sunday leaving some of them injured seriously. At this, parents of the students locked the school protesting the incident. Later, assistant primary education officer of the upazila visited the school, talked to the locals and informed the matter to the district primary education officer for taking necessary action. Afterwards, finding the authenticity of the incident district primary education officer suspended the accused teacher.
Abdul Kadir, the accused teacher said everyday students fail to learn daily lessons so he beat them up lightly.

Student murder accused held
Jessore: Police arrested the main accused in college student Biplob murder case from Kajirber village in Sharsha upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Raju, 23, son of Miaz Uddin Neda, a resident of Matipukur village of the upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the village in the afternoon and arrested Raju, the principal accused in the murder case, said Murad Hossain, sub-inspector of Sharsha Police Station.
