Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday told Parliament that some 40 percent work on Padma Bridge completed as of January 2017, reports UNB.
The progress of construction works on the much-sought bridge is satisfactory, he said replying to a tabled question from Awami League MP AFM Bahauddin Nasim (Madaripur-3).
In reply to another tabled question from AL MP Suhrab Uddin (Kishoreganj-2), the minister said a total of 566 bridges are now highly risky on highways.
Quader said the present government has taken various measures to re-construct the highly vulnerable bridges.
Responding to a tabled question from the ruling party MP Waseqa Ayesha Khan (Women Seat-31), the minister said it is expected that Bhutan will ratify the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) Motor Vehicles Agreement (MVA) soon. Bangladesh, India and Nepal have already ratified it, he added.
Quader said the BBIN Motor Vehicles Agreement was signed in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan in 2015, for ensuring road connectivity among the four countries as part of growing sub-regional cooperation.
In response to a tabled question from AL MP Dilara Begum (Women Seat-20), he said the number of registered motor vehicles is some 29 lakh across the country and over 17 lakh of those are motorcycles.
