Stocks opened the week upward yesterday with all the indices at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges finishing upwards on higher activities of large-cap securities, reports BSS.
Major sectors including food and allied, insurance and service and real estate finished higher when 148 securities ended higher against 71 declining issues. The major losing sectors included financial institution, jute, paper and printing and textile.
The broader DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the day 33.82 points up at 5,546.29. The two selective indices - DS30 and DSES - were also marginally up at 2011.24 and 1294.78 respectively.
Majority of the issues traded on the two bourses closed the week up on moderate demand. Out of the 329 issues traded on DSE, 185 gained against 89 losing issues.
The trade value at DSE increased to Tk 966.84 crore from the previous session of Tk 913.55 crore while the trade volume also rose to 26.31 crore from 26.02 crore shares of Thursday trading.
The five major gaining companies were Emerald Oil, Asian Insurance, EHL, Republic and ICB Second NRB.
The five major losing companies were Lanka Bangla Finance, Jute Spinning, KPPL, IDLC and MHSML.
The top five turnover leaders were Lanka Bangla Finance, Apollo Isphat, Baraka Power, RAK Ceramic and RSRM Steel.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the week up, with its major CASPI index ending 114.77 points higher at 17,160.22.
At CSE, 261 issues traded while 172 issued higher against 70 issued lower.
