Worker killed in road crash
A transport worker was killed and 20 garment workers were injured as a bus turned turtle on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Genda Bus Stand area yesterday morning.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.
Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station SM Kamruzzaman said the bus was going to Ulail from Radio Colony in the morning with 20-25 garment workers on board. The bus overturned as the driver lost control over the steering after one of its wheels got punctured and went off with a big bang, leaving helper of the bus dead on the spot and 20 passengers injured, he said.
Landslide kills quarry worker
A stone quarry worker was killed and two others were injured when part of a hillock collapsed on them while lifting stones from Shah Arpin in Sylhet on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Anis, 36, son of Kamar Uddin, a resident of Ahmadbad village in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district.
Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Companiganj Police Station, said part of the hillock collapsed on some workers while lifting stones from Shah Arpin stone quarry in the area around 4.30pm, leaving Anis dead on the spot and two others injured.
2 held with 28,500 yaba pills
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested two alleged drug dealers along with 28,500 yaba tablets from Tikatuli area of the capital on Saturday.
Tipped off, a special Rab-1 team launched a raid on a house of KN Das Lane of the area around 12:45 pm and arrested alleged drug peddlers Md Hossain, 35, and Md Sabbir Hossain Shohagh, 19, said sources at the RAB headquarters. The team also recovered 28,500 yaba pills and Tk 209,900 from the house.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they brought the consignment of the contraband tablets from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar by a Saudia Paribnahan bus.
Seminar on traditional art
A seminar on traditional art of embroidery was held at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM) in the capital on Saturday.
The programme titled ‘Interactive Display of traditional Art of Embroidery as an Element of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Bangladesh’ was organised by BNM.
BNM Director General (DG) Faizul Latif Chowdhury presided over the seminar while architect Kazi Khaled Asharaf of Bengal Centre attended the programme as the chief guest.
