The two-day youth conference on climate change began in Barisal city yesterday with a theme ‘Youth Action Youth Mindset, Safer Environment Green Planet’.
Offices of Barisal Divisional Commissioner, Department of Environment (DoE) and UNICEF jointly organised the programme. The programmes including rally, bicycle procession, photography exhibition, discussions and research paper presentations.
Lawmaker Jebunnesa Afroz of Barisal-5 inaugurated the conference yesterday at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall. Md Gaus, Barisal divisional commissioner, presided over the programmes while AL lawmaker Advocate Talukder Md Younus attended there as the chief guest.
Md Nazrul Islam, regional director of DoE, AH Toufiq Ahmed, regional chief UNICEF, addressed the programme as special guests.
Around 500 youths from different schools, colleges and universities, environment experts took part in the different sessions of the programme held in six venues including auditoriums of Ashwini Kumar Hall, Barisal University, BDS, AVAS, SAINT Bangladesh, development organizations of the City.
Speakers demanded to build up update data with correct information of rain fall, temperature position of Barisal and its effect. They said without proper information change of climate mark very much difficult.
“This programme was the first in our country. We want to reach our voice to policy makers because costal belt especially Barisal Division became mostly affected by climate change”, said Md Gaus, Barisal divisional commissioner.
