CHITTAGONG: The elections to the Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA), the country’s second largest professional body, was held here yesterday in a peaceful manner, reports BSS.
Election commission sources said nearly 3100 lawyers out of 3,801 exercised their rights of franchise from 9 am to till 4pm without any break. Counting of the votes is now continuing at CDBA auditorium. Advocate Ferdouse Ahmed conducted the polls as the chief election commissioner while Advocate Anwar Islam Chowdhury, Advocate Reazaul Karim Chowdhury, Mohammad Foizullah and Enamul Hoque were the election commissioners. Three panels- Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left-leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro-BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad contested in the elections.
