A journalist of an English daily was injured as a speedy car hit him in the capital’s Karwanbazar area yesterday.
He was identified as Mamur Rashid, senior reporter of the Daily Observer.
According to the eyewitness, Mamun, also former organising secretary of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh( CRAB), was critically injured the car hit his bike when he was going to office in the capital.
He was undergoing operation at Dhaka Medical College Hospital( DMCH) till filing the report at 7:30pm.
Admitting the incident, Inspector Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station said ‘‘Since there were some CCTV cameras on the spot, we are trying to identify the car and to arrest the drive.”
We brought the bike of the journalist to the police station, he added.
Three cases, including a defamation one, were filed against the injured journalist Mamur Rashid, along with the Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury recently for publishing a report headlined ' Police await PM's order to crack down on drug lords' on January 23 in the daily.
Ruling Awami League lawmakers Engineer Enamul Haque from Rajshahi-4 constituency and Nizam Uddin Hazari, from Feni- filed two the cases.
AL lawmakers Shamim Osman and Enamul Haque came down heavily on Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury for the report.
Enamul Haque requested the Speaker to summon the chief of the newspaper “involved in character assassinations of MPs and politicians” and to quiz them on their “false, fabricated and biased reports”.
