Nautical Aliya, a Malaysian ship carrying relief materials for Rohingyas, who have fled their home country Myanmar after being subjected to brutal crackdown by security forces in the country’s Rakhine State, is scheduled to reach Chittagong 6am today.
The ships left Yangon on Friday for Chittagong port and it will be anchored at Kutubdia channel in the Bay of Bengal.
“From the outer-anchorage, the humanitarian aid will be carried by two lighter ships to Chittagong’s Sadarghat. We would likely receive the aid items tomorrow and 150 covered vans have been hired for carrying the goods to Cox’s Bazar by road,” said Kazi Md Abdur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Cox’s Bazar District.
“The humanitarian aids will be distributed among the Rohingyas with the help of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Red Crescent,” Abdur Rahman added.
The ship was carrying about 2,300 tonnes of aid materials for the Rohingya people in Myanmar and Bangladesh. About 500 tonnes of goods was unloaded at Yangon port for the Rohingyas in Myanmar.
Cox’s Bazar District Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ali Hossain and Chittagong District DC Shamsul Arefin are scheduled to welcome the ship, said sources.
