National Central Bureau (NCB) of Police Headquarters has sent a letter to the Interpol Headquarters seeking its cooperation in bringing back Bangladeshi expatriate Quamrul, one of the accused of Samiul Alam Rajon murder, from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, reports UNB.
AIG (media) Police Headquarters Nazrul Islam said they sent the letter on Tuesday night.
Through the letter, he said they requested the Interpol to take steps to send Quamrul back from Jeddah. Earlier on Monday, Bangladeshi expatriates living in Jeddah caught Quamrul and handed him over to local police.
Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, a 13-year-old son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of Sylhet city on July 8. He died of internal bleeding following the torture, said the autopsy report.
Meanwhile, a Sylhet court yesterday placed another accused, Moyna Miah, on a seven-day remand in connection with the gruesome murder of teenage boy Rajon. Judge of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate-1 Sahedul Karim passed the order after police produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
The court also ordered transferring the case to the detective branch (DB) of police. Police arrested Moyna, night guard of Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area and a resident of Pirpur village, from Tukerbazar area under Jalalabad police station in the city on Tuesday night. Additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah said local people of Pirpur village caught Moyna at about 10pm and informed police.
Later, a police team from Jalalabad police station arrested Moyna with the help of a local union parishad member, Enam, and local people. A total of six people have so far been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of the teenage boy.
