A 1 MW wind power plant opened in Kutubdia island of Cox’s Bazar yesterday, reports UNB.
State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the plant set up with 20 turbines each having 50 kilowatt production capacity. With this wind power unit, the total number of such green power plants reaches 3.
A similar capacity plant was earlier set up in this Kutubdia island which has been generating electricity for the last few years and the other one is situated at Mahurir Char island of Feni district.
Inaugurating the wind power plant, Nasrul Hamid said the government will continue its efforts to increase the power generation from renewable sources as this is the environment-friendly option.
“Though renewable power generation is a costly option, the government will continue its endeavour for clean energy,” he told the inauguration function at Kutubdia, which was also attended by local MP Asheq Ullah Rafiq and Power Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikuas.
He said the government has been working to reach electricity to every doorstep as per the commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The target will be achieved much ahead of the deadline, he said.
