AL men on extortion spree, alleges BNP

UNB

BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon yesterday alleged that the ruling party men and law enforcers have been on an extortion spree everywhere ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports UNB.
“A horror grand festival of extortion is going on everywhere centring the eid. Usually, the waywardness of extortionists increases ahead of eid, but this time it has multiplied. The ruling party men are now on an extortion spree everywhere,” he said.
Addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, Ripon further said, “Not only that there’re also allegations that the law enforcers are extorting people and harassing them.”
The BNP spokesman alleged that the government has failed to check extortion as Awami League cadres and law enforcers are involved in it.
He urged the government to take immediate action in this regard and make the eid-trippers’ journey safe and hassle free. Mentioning that the capital city will turn almost vacant during eid, he called upon the government to take necessary security measures to prevent any untoward incident and ensure the security of public life and property.
Ripon, one of the BNP’s international affairs secretaries, demanded the government immediately release the BNP leaders and activists so that they can celebrate the eid with their family members.
“Still, our two standing committee members, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and many other leaders and activists, including Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi have been there in jail. “We renewed our demand for the release of the detained opposition men before eid on humanitarian ground,” he said. The BNP spokesman said their party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who was freed on bail on Tuesday is very sick.  “He’ll go abroad for treatment very soon.”
