Battalion Ansar (Amendment) Bill, 2017 placed in JS

BSS

The Battalion Ansar (Amendment) Bill, 2017 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday with a proposal to bring down service confirmation period of the members of the force from nine years to six years, reports BSS.
With passage of the bill, the service of every embedded Ansar member will be confirmed after six years instead of nine years in the existing provision. Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan placed the bill, which was later sent to the parliamentary standing committee concerned for scrutiny and to report back by next seven days.
Justifying necessity of the bill, the minister said the government recruits Ansar members through competitive examinations like officers and employees of other organizations and they are imparted required training. But, unlike the other departments their services are not confirmed after successful completion of the two years probationary period.
Rather, under the rules of the existing law, their jobs are confirmed in the scale-based permanent posts after nine years of their services on the basis of daily allowances, he added.
The minister said under these perspectives, the government has decided to bring down service confirmation period of the Ansar force from the existing nine years to six years.
In continuation with the process, the ministries of public administration and finance gave their consent to bring amendments to the relevant section (Section-6 ka) of the existing legislation (Battalion Ansar Act, 1995), he said.
Earlier on January 9, the cabinet gave its final approval to the draft of the Battalion Ansar (Amendment) Act, 2017. Besides, the parliamentary standing committee report on ‘Child Marriage Prevention Bill, 2016’ was placed in the House. Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Begum Rebeka Momin placed the report with some amendments.
